STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress Management

There is no doubt we are living in a stressful time with everything that is going on in the world. Now while there are certain things we can not control there are a number of things we can do to help reduce our stress levels and make us feel better.

Here are my top five:

1. Hug it out

Giving your loved ones a hug can do wonders for both yourself and them.

Your body actually releases a chemical called oxytocin that will make you feel better for it.

Patting and playing with your pets does the same. I know personally that cuddles from both Bronson and Dakota have gotten me through some very tough times which I am extremely grateful for.

2. Sleep

Your body will regenerate itself physically first and psychologically second so while you may survive on 6 hours sleep you will not thrive. It will be your brain and in turn the way you perceive the world that will suffer. Focusing on getting a good night’s sleep is crucial for clarity and resilience the next day.

3. Hydration

We are around 70% water and as such every cell in your body needs to be well hydrated to perform at its best. Making sure you drink enough water is extremely important for both the brain and the body.

Dehydration is one of the biggest stresses that people are simply unaware of.

I recommend around 35ml per kg of body weight. I like to add lemon as well as blended celery and cabbage to my first two litres. To that, I will often also add electrolytes and silica for better absorption.

4. Breathe

It sounds weird to say but breathing is one of the two most common things that people do really badly.

Breathing too shallow,  too fast, mouth breathing, and not using your diaphragm, are all examples of poor breathing. All of which often will lead to increased possibility of anxiety, stress and depression.

Slow deep breaths are on of the quickest and easiest ways to manage stress. There are a number of specific techniques out there so simply find the one that suits you

5. Move

You are designed to move. Make sure you do so each day and also you ensure you get a good balance of resistance, cardio and mobility training.

All of the above will make you feel amazing and help you to combat any stresses you come across in the day. Life is about feeling good so if I was to add one more it would be to be kind. Be kind to yourself as much as to others.

Have a great day and if you bump into us make sure you follow rule one.

Cheers Marty
