MY DAILY DRINK FOR OPTIMAL HEALTH

This is my daily drink that I like to consume each day to have me look, feel and perform at my best. Yes, by all means you can add more to this but this is quick, simple and provides a host of benefits.

100g of cabbage

100g celery

50g lemon

Blended in 2 litres of water.

Plus 1 tsp of electrolyte powder.

Here are the potential benefits of consuming this drink each day:

Hydration:

I recommend people drink at least 35ml of water per kg of body weight but personally, I find drinking water on its own rather boring. This drink very much encourages me to drink as it tastes great without the sugars associated with most drinks.

Rich in Vitamin C:

The lemon content provides a significant dose of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that supports the immune system, aids in collagen synthesis, and helps protect cells from oxidative damage.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties:

Both cabbage and celery contain compounds with anti-inflammatory properties. Regular consumption of anti-inflammatory foods may help reduce inflammation in the body, which is linked to various chronic diseases.

Digestive Support:

Celery, cabbage, and lemon each contribute to digestive health. The fiber in cabbage and celery aids digestion and promotes regular bowel movements, while lemon juice may stimulate digestive enzymes.

Nutrient Dense:

Cabbage and celery are nutrient-dense vegetables, providing essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamin K, vitamin C, potassium, folate, and manganese.

Weight Management:

The fibre content in cabbage and celery may contribute to feelings of fullness, potentially aiding in weight management. Additionally, replacing sugary drinks with this low-calorie, nutrient-rich option can support overall health. This is why i recommend you blend rather than juice.

Heart Health:

The fibre, antioxidants, and potassium in the ingredients may contribute to heart health. Fiber helps lower cholesterol levels, antioxidants reduce oxidative stress, and potassium supports blood pressure regulation.

Detoxification Support:

Some proponents suggest that the combination of cabbage, celery, and lemon may have detoxifying properties. While the body has its own detoxification mechanisms, staying hydrated with a drink rich in antioxidants can support these processes.

Alkalizing Effect:

Despite the acidity of lemon, the overall effect of the drink is actually alkalizing. Some proponents believe that maintaining a slightly alkaline pH can be beneficial, although the body’s pH is tightly regulated.

Skin Health:

The vitamin C in lemon and other antioxidants in the ingredients may contribute to skin health by supporting collagen synthesis and protecting against oxidative damage.

Kidney Stone Prevention:

The citric acid in lemon may help prevent the formation of kidney stones by increasing urine volume and citrate levels.

Aid Iron Absorption:

The vitamin C in lemon enhances non-heme iron absorption from plant-based sources, making it a valuable addition for individuals following a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.

It’s important to note that while this drink can be a nutritious addition to your daily routine, it should be part of a well-balanced diet. Individual responses to such drinks may vary, and consulting with a healthcare professional is advisable, especially if you have existing health conditions or concerns. Additionally, moderation is key, and variety in food choices is crucial for overall health and well-being.

Adding a teaspoon of electrolytes to your drink can offer several advantages, particularly in terms of absorption, and may provide support for the adrenal glands and aldosterone regulation.

Here are some potential benefits:

Hydration and Electrolyte Balance:

Electrolytes, including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, phosphate, and bicarbonate, play a crucial role in maintaining proper fluid balance in the body. By adding electrolytes to your drink, you enhance hydration and help restore any imbalances caused by factors like exercise, sweating, or dietary habits.

Enhanced Absorption:

Electrolytes aid in the absorption of water in the digestive system. Sodium, for example, is actively transported across the intestinal wall, and its movement helps pull water with it, promoting efficient hydration.

Adrenal Support:

The adrenal glands, located on top of the kidneys, play a central role in the body’s stress response. Electrolytes, particularly sodium, are essential for adrenal function. Adequate sodium levels support the release of aldosterone, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands that helps regulate water and electrolyte balance.

Aldosterone Regulation:

Aldosterone is a hormone that helps regulate sodium and potassium balance in the body. Proper levels of aldosterone are crucial for maintaining blood pressure, fluid balance, and electrolyte homeostasis. Electrolytes, especially sodium, support the production and release of aldosterone.

Exercise Performance:

During intense physical activity, electrolytes are lost through sweat. Replenishing these electrolytes is essential to prevent dehydration, muscle cramps, and fatigue, ultimately supporting optimal exercise performance.

Enhanced Cellular Function:

Electrolytes are essential for various cellular functions, including maintaining cell membrane potential and facilitating the movement of nutrients and waste products in and out of cells.

Reduced Risk of Heat-Related Issues:

In hot and humid conditions, the risk of dehydration and heat-related issues increases. Electrolyte supplementation can help mitigate these risks by supporting hydration and temperature regulation.

When choosing an electrolyte supplement, it’s important to consider the composition and source of electrolytes.

It’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you have existing health conditions or concerns, before incorporating electrolyte supplements into your routine. Additionally, staying mindful of your individual needs and adjusting electrolyte intake based on factors like activity level, climate, and diet is essential for optimal health and well-being.
